Chargers beat pesky GWC 3-2

Chargers celebrate on a direct kick
from Moctezuma
Cypress, CA - The Chargers (9-0-1, 6-0) hosted the Golden West Rustlers (6-5, 4-2) on another steamy hot afternoon at Ray Haas Field. Cypress expected Golden West to be a tough team with quickness on both end of the field.  While it looked like the Chargers should have several goals from several opportunities, it was not until the 37th minute that Marina Thomas found the net from an assist pass from Reyna Jacome.  The Chargers had more opportunities but never cashed any more goals in to lead 1-0 at the intermission..  At the 62nd minute, the Rustlers retaliated with a goal off a rebounde from Keeper Michelle Mendez. However a minute later Alex Moctezuma took a direct kick from 40-yard out and found Golden West's net and Chargers took a 2-1 advantage. At the 76th minute, Lauren Houdek heads into GWC's net off a corner to give the Chargers an much needed insurance goal leading 3-1. GWC scored off the strong side at the 82nd minute to cut the lead to 3-2.

The Chargers are 6-0 and tie with Santiago Canyon for first place in the conference. SCC is 10-0 overall and the most anticipated match is set for October 9 at Haas Field.
