Clash of the Titans Part 1 concluded in a draw

Thomas collected
a goal and an assist
Cypress, CA - The myth of "defense wins championships" came to life when #8 Cypress clashing with #8 Santiago Canyon in the most anticipated Women's Soccer match of the Orange Empire Conference. Both teams were grinding on defense, the Hawks allowed the Chargers three shots on goal while the Chargers allowed the Hawk only two shots on goal. However the Hawks' two shots were enough to score two goals and concluded the clash a 2-2 tie at Haas Field. For the Chargers, the players might think that they should have won this game. The Hawks' first goal was a slow lob that sailed over Michelle Mendez' head, while the second goal was off a rebound. The Chargers on the other hand had to labor hard to earn their two goals. Down 1-0, the Chargers were awarded a corner kick which Marina Thomas booted the ball to the center of the penalty box and Samantha Rice found the net at the 28th minute to tie the game 1-1. Twenty seconds into the second half, Thomas slap shot the ball into Santiago's net courtesy pass of Monique Gerrits to take a 2-1 lead. Three minutes later the Hawks got the net off a rebound from Mendez. With the tie, both teams remain undefeated and in first place in the conference. The Clash of the Titans Part 2 will conclude at Santiago on November 9 which likely will determine the conference championship.
